James Simon Jones (Wales, 1972) is currently based in Trebanos, south west Wales, although he has also lived for extended periods in England and the Netherlands.
He has had a keen interest in art all his life, and has always enjoyed drawing and designing, although his art career only began in earnest in his 40s. Largely self-taught, save for a year's Art Foundation at the Swansea College of Art and some painting classes, he worked primarily in the abstract at first but has gradually moved towards figurative work over time.
His influences are largely drawn from late 19th and 20th century European and American art, in particular the German Expressionists, Abstract Expressionists and post-war British painters. The sole aim of his work is to reflect human emotion and experience: love, loss and longing.
